Rotary started the initiative to eradicate Polio in 1985 to be joined by the United Nations and world governments in 1988. At the outset there were 365,000 cases a year, currently in 2016 there have been just 21 cases!. But Polio will not be eradicated until there have been zero cases for 3 years so the fund raising must continue.
