Members of Barnet Rotary Club and friends and supporters once again celebrated Christmas Day in style by entertaining 60 members of the Community who would otherwise have been on their own for a full Christmas Day Lunch.
Residents invited included some recommended by Social Services and some residents of sheltered Charity Housing schemes and some known to Rotarians.
Visitors coming to express Christmas greetings included the Representative Deputy Lieutenant of the London Borough of Barnet (and Honorary Member of the Club) Martin Russell in full uniform, The Deputy Mayor of the London Borough of Barnet Councillor Lachhya Gurung and District Governor Tony Sharma.
President of the Club Colin Luke performed the traditional role of carving the Turkey and guests expressed themselves well satisfied with the excellent cooking done by Rtn Debbie Hodge and her team in the kitchen!
Barnet is one of only two Rotary Clubs in London (the other being Battersea Park ) who still host local residents on Christmas Day.
The lunch is paid for by the result of supermarket collections in the run up to Christmas and donations from Barnet residents.
The Club is grateful to Waitrose at North Finchley and Whetstone , Sainsburys at New Barnet and the Spires Shopping Centre for allowing us to collect.
