The Friary Park Junior parkrun is a 2k event for juniors (4-14 year olds), which is held every Sunday at 9:00am at Friary Park, Friary Road, Barnet, N12 9PQ.
One of the requirements of the Parkrun UK Limited, which is the company responsible for delivering the park runs in the UK, is that a defibrillator shall be available during the run.
Following a request from the Organiser of the Parkrun the Rotary Park of Barnet has donated a defibrillator with its storage box. A grant was obtained from the Rotary Foundation for half the funds required for this project.
On the 29th of April the Junior Parkrun celebrated its one year birthday and invited the Rotary Club of Barnet to attend and to formally present the defibrillator to the organiser of the Parkrun. President Jim McCarthy, Secretary Ginette Baker, Brian Coleman and John Michaelides from the Rotary Club attended the event.
The event was very well attended, about 145 junior runners took part also some parents with younger children took part. The event was attended by the Borough of Barnet Mayor, Cllr Reuben Thompstone, who started the run.
During the run President Jim McCarthy presented the defibrillator which was placed inside the Friary Park housing. The photos taken for this presentation are attached to this article.
After the presentation and the end of the parkrun tea, coffee and cakes were given to whoever went into the Friary Park Bowls Club housing. The Bowls Club has allowed some of the children to use the bowls green.
