The Club presented a cheque to Muriel Thompson, to help towards her project to install solar panels in remote village in Fiji, to provide electricity.
Last year, Muriel Thompson, a 23 year old Anthropology graduate from Barnet, embarked on a volunteering placement half way across the world, to a rural village Nailuva in Fiji. For the next 8 months, she spent her time there teaching 33 year 8’s deep in the mountains of Viti Levu.
Not only did she teach in the village school, but she learnt a great deal about the people and their culture. When she returned to the UK, she decided to give something back to the community by raising money to help the school purchase solar panels, as it had no electricity. When she lived in the village, there was only enough generator power for 2 hours per night.
Apart from traveling the world and fundraising, Muriel is currently training to be a Teacher.
