On the 9th June 330 golfers from Rotary Clubs around the world converged in St Andrews for the annual International Golf Tournament. From London area, 4 travelled up for the week including Scott representing Barnet Rotary Club. The first round started with a clear day on the Old Course and with the wind behind Scott put his drive in the Swilken Burn in front of the 17th Tee. The caddy apologised and the round improved from that point.
The second day brought a round on the Eden course plus some wind and rain to make us all feel at home. After 2 rounds the tops scorers were invited to represent their country for the final 2 rounds. Scott and another of the London Rotarians were in the top 9 scores and were picked for England. Teams were also chosen from Scotland, Ireland, Europe and Rest of the World to play on the final 2 days.
The 3rd day was on the New Course with a bit more wind followed by the calm and dry final day on the Old Course. Highlight of the final round was driving the green on the par 4, 9th hole, but missing the eagle put, and finishing with 38 points. This helped England finish in 2nd place behind Ireland who traditionally seem to win. Scott played with golfers from Holland, Switzerland, New Zealand, South Africa and USA and will be returning to do it all again next year. Scott commented that he was especially pleased to take part in this 60th Anniversary event and be picked for England in the footsteps of his father (a member of Ashridge GC) who played in the 3rd event, who was also picked for England but they won that year.
