The Green, Green Grass Near Home

Have you ever wondered what you would do without a car, without any family living locally, and how it would feel to cook Sunday lunch for yourself to eat on your own especially if it happened to be your 92nd birthday?

There would be no opportunity to see the blossom on the trees, the lambs in the fields, or to meet friends and talk over lunch.

The Rotary Club of Barnet was delighted to be able to take a party of 40 to Mill Green Golf Club near Welwyn Garden City on Sunday 12th May including Joan Hall who was presented with a card, a box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers for her birthday!

Thanks to the help of Good Neighbours and the Retired Senior Volunteer Programme the Senior Citizens of Barnet, who can only travel on bus routes or to the Day Centre, had a wonderful day out with a drive through the countryside followed by a 3 course lunch and all financed by the Rotary Club with funds donated by local charities and with a splendid donation from the Trust Fund of the Rotary Club of Hendon.

For more information about joining Rotary and helping in your local community and elsewhere in the world where there is great need please contact the Rotary Club of Barnet Membership Chairman, John Hickman, on 020 8202 1984 or e-mail the Secretary, Arthur Chapman, at arthur.chapman1@ntlworld.com.
